Our sweet Mother and Grandma, Janice Kennedy Smith, passed away on Thursday June 15th after a six year battle with dementia. She owned and successfully managed Bud N' Vase Florist in Millington for many years. As a grandma she was renowned for her cooking, baking, and seamstress talents as she produced prize winning quilts, prom dresses, and Halloween costumes.
She lived most of her adult life in the Memphis area but was originally from the community of Harmony in Clarke County, Mississippi near Quitman. In her later years she returned there to live near...

Our sweet Mother and Grandma, Janice Kennedy Smith, passed away on Thursday June 15th after a six year battle with dementia. She owned and successfully managed Bud N' Vase Florist in Millington for many years. As a grandma she was renowned for her cooking, baking, and seamstress talents as she produced prize winning quilts, prom dresses, and Halloween costumes.
She lived most of her adult life in the Memphis area but was originally from the community of Harmony in Clarke County, Mississippi near Quitman. In her later years she returned there to live near her sister Evelyn and brother James. There she was a faithful member of McGowan's Chapel Methodist Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband William S. Smith of Memphis, her sister Evelyn Kennedy Wallis, and parents Sam Ferrell and Bessie Evans Kennedy. She leaves her three children, daughter Susan Carroll Tamboli, two sons Chris Carroll and Scott Smith, ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She also leaves her brothers S.F. Kennedy Jr. of Newport News, Virginia and James H. Kennedy of Harmony, Mississippi, and her sister Amanda Kennedy Newsome also of Harmony. Additionally she leaves a multitude of loving nieces and nephews many of whom were supportive and assisted in her care.
The family will receive friends from 10am until service time at 11am, Thursday, June 22, 2017, at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Rd., Bartlett, TN 38133.
